Artificial insemination plays an important role in improving the genetics of brood cows at Bar L Ranch. Through a producer participation program, the ranch works closely with the teaching staff at University of Florida in research to determine best synchronization protocol in an A.I. program. Also, at the same time, Bar L participates with Select Sires and Champion Hill Angus by using semen from their selected sires in return for complete data on the steer calves from birth through carcass data. Bar L retains the A.I.-sired heifers as replacement each year. Through support of education and research, we strive to raise the highest quality of beef possible that meets the public’s demand. We work with many grasses in an effort to raise the quality forage for grazing and production of all our hay needs. Tifton 85 Bermuda grass is primarily used for hay with Coastal Bermuda, Tifton 44 Bermuda, Russell Bermuda, Argentine Bahia, Pensacola Bahia and Tifton 9 Bahia used in grazing program. In addition to cattle operation, peanuts are grown in a rotational program through the Bahia grass pastures. Our working facilities are considered very efficient with computerized scales, hydraulic squeeze chute and working tub. All pens are made from welded pipe or guardrail, which are extremely strong and durable. If you are interested in our operation, we would be glad for you to tour our ranch.
